Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So, yet again, I'm asking you all for money. Last year, you were all so very, very generous helping me raise a fantastic amount for cancer research. Back then, I had just started running, this event gave me an aim of 5k and I was doing it for my grandma.
This year is bigger, longer and a lot, lot harder. This year I have roped in Chris and we are running the furthest, hardest run of our lives yet. If I thought last year was hard, this year is going to be harder.
On April 9th 2013, my grandma passed away after 6 years of lung cancer. 6 long years of hospital visits, chemotherapy and a lot of a pain. But in those 6 years she saw her 2 great grand children being born, she saw me happily married and her last memories of my children were of them standing at the window, eagerly waving to her and my grandad as the arrived for a brief visit 2 days before she passed away.
Since her passing, but a few short months ago, big things have happened in our lives which she will never get to see.. such as me opening my own nursery and my oldest starting school, but I feel every day that she lives through us all and gives us the strength to do better, bigger things.
So here we are, training hard, feeling the pain of having to run like we've never run before... further, faster and all in the name of Janet Fletcher Bryans.
In her final months, she was in a lot of pain and her standard of living was not great.. but Macmillian Nurses provided her and my grandad who was her full time carer, with so much support in person and at the end of the phone every time they needed it. I can not begin to describe the level of gratitude that in her final months that my grandparents had people there who cared so much and could help them in a way we couldn't.
If you want to do something nice, something that will put a smile on many peoples faces.. especcially ours, than please give whatever little you can to Macmillan. You may not see what they do, but what they do is amazing to so many people and not even to just to those who have this rotten cancer, to their spouses, partners and families, the support really is invaluable. They do not just provide a phone line, they provide real nurses, they provide real support and they provide a real life line.
We all know someone who has been affected by cancer. We have all seen the devistating affects it can have on loved ones, on friends of loved ones. O and I'll love you ever so much if I can beat my target as that will make me run ever so much faster. Honestly.
