Thanks for taking the time to visit my page
On the 19th May, our eldest daughter Sophie (15) went for an MRI to discharge her after having headaches for over 2 years. An hour later I got the phone call no one ever wants to get that my daughter had a brain tumour, bigger than a golf ball, on the back of her brain. We were then taken, by ambulance, to Queens medical centre Nottingham, ward E40. The following Tuesday, Sophie had the operation to remove (Brian) the brain tumour. The operation took 9 1/2 hours and was a total success. Sophie was never really fully with it after the op and two days later her breathing and heart rate dropped and she was rushed back to surgery because fluid had leaked on her brain. Sophie lost the ability to eat, swallow, talk, walk or even open her eyes. Sophie spent her 16th birthday, unable to move, trapped inside her own body in a hospital bed. The care that sophie received from all the staff on E40 was amazing. For 7 weeks they helped her to overcome so much. The physios and occupational therapists have helped Sophie learn to walk again and continue to do so, even now that she is home.
I will never be able to repay these amazing people but hope that doing this will help a little. Don’t ever think it won’t happen to you because that’s how I felt. I met some amazing families on E40 that are still fighting to get their children home. We are home now but she still has a long way to go.
To date Sophie has had 5 MRI’s 2 CT scans and 3 brain options.
