Story
I am embarking upon a 26 mile walk across the Brecon Beacons in July in order to raise vital funds for The Alzheimer’s Society.
I have always told myself that if I am ever going to fundraise, each request for kind donations needs to be matched with a challenge harder than the one before. My only fundraising activity to date has been for my first half marathon, my first marathon and my relay swim across the English Channel. Whilst a 26 mile trek across the Brecon Beacons may not seem to fit the bill of a harder challenge than the last, trust me when I tell you it most certainly is!! Those who know me well, know how hard this is going to be for me, especially considering the recent unearthing of vital information which explains why such a simple task………walking on uneven terrain…….proves so difficult for me!!! It’s only taken 44 years for me to make a connection, and realise that club feet at birth has such an impact on my “walking”!! Trust me when I say, I would rather attempt the Channel once more than walk 26 miles across uneven and challenging terrain!!!!
However, those difficulties pale into insignificance when I see the pain and heartache that this cruel disease has brought to a wonderful family very close to my heart, as well as thousands of other families around the UK. What’s one day of hardship for me, when others face days, weeks, months and years.
I completely understand the financial hardships that everyone is currently going through, with the world seemingly being tipped on its head. On top of that, there are the numerous fundraising and charity donation requests as a result of people challenging and pushing themselves to their limits to help other people and charities. So my request is simple, if you are able to give anything at all towards this fantastic charity, then I would be extremely grateful. However, if if it just not possible, please consider leaving a motivational message for me and the team on my Facebook page and I will genuinely be just as grateful for your support.
