Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my justgiving page. My beautiful son Alfie Ray Clark born 17/02/11 was diagnosed 12/04/12 with High risk Aggressive Neuroblastoma cancer stage 4,

He had a very large tumour in his tummy and was attached to his main blood vessel and main arteries to all his organs. And the cancer had spread to his skull, shoulder 2 parts of his spine and his pelvis.

But unfortunately despite intensive 70 day course of chemotherapy to try and shrink it his tumour did not respond. He had a major operation in July to try and remove it. After his operation Alfie had multiple organ failure and was put on life support despite everyone’s best efforts Alfie did not recover and we had to let him go and Alfie passed away in his parent’s arms on the 07/08/12 at just 18 months old.

We are now trying to raise as much money as we can for the hospital that helped little Alfie and to try raise awareness of children’s can.

Neuroblastoma is an aggressive childhood cancer. It is the most common cancer diagnosed in the first year of life and causes around 15% of childhood cancer deaths. Approximately 100 new cases of neuroblastoma are diagnosed every year in the UK.

The long term survival rate for babies and children with high risk neuroblastoma is less than 40% —around half the average survival rate for childhood cancers.

Children with advanced neuroblastoma can receive chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, stem celltransplant and immunotherapy. Different treatments are being trialled in Europe—including the UK—and the USA. However, not all children can join UK trials to get the potentially life-saving treatment they need. And some of the trials, especially for relapsed neuroblastoma, are only available abroad.
