Story
As many of you know, we lost my beloved Mum, Pauline, to this cruel disease in November 2021.
I miss my Mum every day, but certain times of the year feel so “her” and May is definitely one of them; for it’s natural beauty, promise of warmth, air of optimism and of course her birthday ... so now feels like a good time to channel grief in to something positive in her memory. The challenge is to walk 31K but I'll be doing my best to take as many steps as I can through the month. Hopefully some of them with friends and family by my side. I'll be thinking of Mum on every walk, my husband's aunt Anne, and also his cousin Brian, who passed away at a young age in 2017 from the same cancer.
I truly hope to raise awareness of the symptoms and disease itself, along with funds for this important charity and in doing so to help make a difference to the future of pancreatic cancer. We're facing a pancreatic cancer emergency which is something I had no idea of until it touched my family's world. Too little has improved and too many people are dying. It's unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within 3 months. Survival rates have improved enormously for most cancers, yet for pancreatic cancer, this is not the case. Pancreatic Cancer UK is dedicated to taking on this injustice using every possible means.
I would hugely appreciate your support as I keep putting one foot in front of the other. If you can make a donation of any amount, it will go towards care for those faced with a diagnosis, for vital research to find breakthroughs in new treatments and for reaching a time where I hope that screening will be available to catch this cancer at an early stage which could make all the difference.
Thank you so much for your kindness. Always in my heart Mum.
Kelly.
