Can you help Nicky get a bionic hand controlled by thought?

Story

The story: In 1999 Nicky had a horrific car accident when her tyre blew out at 70mph on the A23, the accident severed the nerves in her spinal cord leaving her right arm paralysed. Not only was her arm paralysed, it also caused excruciating limb pain over the last 2 decades. At the time Nicky’s son had just turned 4 and she had to bring him up with the use of only one arm – just let that sink in for a bit - imagine trying to dress your wriggling toddler or put their shoes on all with the use of one arm, imagine not being able to butter a piece of toast or peel a potato again, Nicky had to relearn at the age of 22, how to do the simple things in life again all with the use of one hand.

In 2010 Nicky came across a consultant who had developed a ‘mind reading’ bionic arm - she travelled to Vienna to meet him and had a biopsy which revealed she was a match, however, two things stood in her way: £80,000 and her hand amputated! This spurred Nicky on to start fundraising, impressively going from no exercise to completing her first triathlon. In 2017 she finally got the date for the amputation that she even threw a farewell party for her hand…Over the years Nicky has taken on many challenges including swimming the English Channel in a 6 person relay team and with each challenge she is getting stronger and fitter and each small step is closer to her goal.

To help improve Nicky’s quality of life she needs to raise £80,000 for a prosthetic arm that is controlled by thought, so far she has raised 30k but is obviously still a long way off from her target so we will just keep on pushing until one day she will have the use of 2 functioning hands again.

I know moneys tight at the moment so even if you can only afford £1-2 we would still be so appreciative as it really does all add up!

The challenge: To climb Mount Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan all in 24hrs! We’re going to depart Friday night and travel overnight to arrive at the base of Snowdon and start hiking at 3am - to the peak and back, this climb is around 9miles in total and 1085m high. We then drive to Cadair Idris and start climbing as soon as we arrive, here is roughly around 5miles from top to bottom with a height of 893m, then the last final push will be Pen y Fan which is around 4miles and 886m high.

For those of you that know Nicky you’ll know she is such a determined and inspiring woman, and for those that dont know her, well she is just incredible - she competes in triathlons and can even put her bra on with one hand! Her energy, drive, motivation and love for life is what keeps her going, not to mention her hilarious sense of humour, but what’s more impressive is her sheer determination to never give up! So please, if you can donate whatever you can to this amazing cause you will be part of something life-changing in a few years to come!
