Fundraising for The HPV and Anal Cancer Foundation
2190 miles from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Mount Katahdin, Maine.
My goal is to raise $1.00 for each mile that I walk .
In October 2018, I was diagnosed with stage 2 non-HPV anal cancer after going to my PCP for what I believed were angry hemorrhoids.
After the unsuccessful, and very painful treatments of Chemoradiation, I was told that the only option I had left was to have an Abdominoperineal Resection (APR).
my husband and I decided to have this type of surgery done at the Mayo Clinic In Rochester, Minnesota, By the amazing Dr. Behm. I credit him for my comfortable and nearly normal return to life.
My hope is to raise money for this incredibly important foundation because, I was a very healthy 55 year old woman, and was very active in my life. I had my first colonoscopy at age 50 and was given the green light to carry on, and was told to return in 10 years for my next one.
Only 3 years later while scheduled for a hemorrhoidectomy, I was told it was cancer... imagine my surprise!
The Anal Cancer Foundation provides support for anal cancer thrivers, caregivers, and providers connected to anal cancer. ACF advocates for prevention methods that will end HPV and anal cancer such as gender neutral vaccination, and supports research for new anal cancer treatment methods.
