Story
Well, we did it! 13.1 miles :-)
Thank you so much to everyone that sponsored us, we never thought we would raise this much! :-)
Also thank you to everyone that came and supported us on the day, it really helped us keep going! :-)
It isn't too late to donate now, we will not turn any extra pennys away, so if anyone would like to add to our money raised, please do :-)
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
As many of you know, on 27th September 2009, our dad suffered a severe stroke and spent 4 months in hospital.
Over a year down the line and dad is still unable to use his left arm and leg and therefore relies on a wheelchair. It has changed his life forever.
Every year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. Of all people who suffer from a stroke, about a third are likely to die within the first 10 days, about a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likely to be left disabled and needing rehabilitation.
Stroke has a greater disability impact than any other medical condition. A quarter of a million people are living with long-term disability as a result of stroke in the UK.
Back in September last year we decided to enter the 2011 Reading Half Marathon along with our friends Hannah & Simon Clark.
Typically, the year we pick to enter the race we get the coldest winter in 30 years! But, we are determined to complete the 13.1 miles whatever it takes! (Even if some of us are doing more training than others, mentioning no names - Jamie & Simon!)
When it came to choosing a charity to raise money for we felt it was only right we should support The Stroke Association.
The Stroke Association is the only UK wide charity solely concerned with combating stroke in people of all ages.
The Stroke Association funds research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehabilitation, and helps stroke patients and their families directly through its Life After Stroke Services. These include Information, Advice and Support, Communication Support and Life After Stroke grants.
They also campaign, educate and inform to increase knowledge of stroke at all levels of society, and act as a voice for everyone affected by stroke.
We would be very grateful if you could donate through this page.
