Story
Update on 16 May.
Hooray! I made it to both Everest base camp, and to the highest
point on the trek at 5550m, the peak of Kala Pattar. It's been
an amazing experience although I found it tough going
at the higher altitudes, so I'm really pleased that I made it. I
thoroughly enjoyed the trek, particularly seeing the amazing scenery of
the Himalayan mountains, including Everest of course! Thank you so much for your wonderful messages and donations in support
of my trek. I've been blown away by the support from everyone, and
very chuffed to have raised £1000 for
Cancer Research to date- an amazing amount of money! Thank you so much.

Well, the volcano has stopped puffing, the planes are flying again, and my airline has just confirmed that they'll be flying me to Nepal on Sunday. So I've no excuses....I have to put my feet where my mouth is (er) and start trekking.
I'm doing the trek to Everest base camp and would be really grateful if you would consider sponsoring me to get there. Base camp is 5630m above sea level, and I'll be trekking for 14 days in a row (I'm gone from 25 April-14 May). My feet are already hurting at the prospect and I'm sitting down at the moment. While it's incredibly exciting to be doing this trek, this is a big challenge for me. But I have been working pretty hard- in January I could run for 20 minutes before turning into a huffing, puffing beetroot. I can now manage a whole 60mins before people start looking at me and asking if I'm OK.... I have even been a member of a gym for 3 months- and I went too.
When telling you all about this trip, and my gym adventures, many of you suggested I do the trek for sponsorship. A great idea! Your support will certainly help me push on, when I realise that 60 mins of running isn't going to get me that far up the mountain, and that the 'very strenuous' walk (according to Time out) I did on Sunday probably wasn't really that strenuous in the big scheme of things
I'm raising money for Cancer Research UK. My lovely cousin Quirine died aged 29 after a brave fight against a vicious cancer at the start of the year. She was a wonderful person and I miss her so much. Research into cancer has made huge leaps and bounds over the past few years, but there's still such a long way to go in fighting this disease. I hope the money I raise will mean that Cancer Research will find the miracle for someone else that my cousin was hoping for.
Thank you so much for your support and donations in advance.
