Story
Hi there!
A big thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Two years ago I lost my dear Auntie Debbie to Type 2 diabetes. Debbie was taken too soon from us, she was only 59. Just months away from her 60 birthday celebrations, she lost her fight. Two years before this we lost our Grampy to diabetes. Both cases were because of liver failure brought on by diabetes. My Gran has diabetes, thankfully she is able to control it by diet and medication. Sadly Gran too lost her partner Ronnie to Type 1, four years ago as well.
This condition has profoundly impacted on my family. So this year I am running the Virgin London Marathon in aid of Diabetes UK! This amazing charity provide the vital support people need to ensure they don't face diabetes alone. They are the charity leading the fight against the most devastating and fastest growing health crisis of our time, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm.
Diabetes affects so many people; We all know family members or friends with this condition. So as well as a tremendous personal 'bucket list' achievement, I want to run this marathon to raise awareness of this condition and much needed funds to help Diabetes UK continue to do the amazing job they do!
I was meant to be running this epic marathon with a dear friend Andrew Curley, who has Type 1. Sadly Andrew, had to pull out due to health concerns related to his diabetes. This run is also for you Andrew.
Thank you so much for your support !
Kelly xx
