Story
I am running the Perkins Great Eastern Run in Peterborough to raise funds for the White Ribbon Campaign and to raise awareness of domestic abuse.
One in four women and one in six men experience domestic abuse at some stage in their lives.
Every minute of every day the police in the UK receive a call for assistance with a domestic abuse incident.
11,310 women are supported by domestic violence services in England on a typical day.
3,615 women and 3,580 children are resident in refuge accommodation in England. Half of these children are aged under 5 years.
I work directly with victims of domestic abuse who rely heavily upon local Peterborough voluntary organisations that provide help, support, advice, legal guidance and safe refuge. These services are in desperate need of funding in order to continue to provide much needed help.
I will be wearing a large white ribbon during the 13.1 mile race to raise awareness for the white ribbon campaign which raises awareness of domestic abuse and raises funds for domestic abuse services.
They ask that men in particular pledge not to condone, commit or remain silent about domestic violence. As well as helping us to raise funds; if you know somebody who may be running in this race could you please encourage them to make that pledge; and approach our stand at the start line on the embankment to obtain a white ribbon to wear during the race.
Thank you for taking the time to visit this page. I am now asking you please to dig deep and make a donation to this charity.
Thanking you in advance, Kelly-Anne
