Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am a specialist nurse for children and young people with Type 1 diabetes at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. Alongside a team of healthcare professionals I currently provide nursing care for over 120 children and young people with Type 1 diabetes age under 1 to 17 years old. Each day these children and young people live their lives with finger prick blood glucose tests and insulin injections. However, this is only half the story......
Children with Type 1 diabetes are at continuing risk of hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) which can lead to fitting and/or unconsciousness. They are also at continuing risk of hyperglycaemia (high blood glucose) which can lead to life-threatening diabetic ketoacidosis.
Families living with diabetes can never simply have 'a day off' they often struggle trying to balance blood glucose control and everyday life.
I am passionate about the work of the Juvinile Diabetes Research Foundation. JDRF supports children, their families and professionals. Their primary aim is to fund research to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes.
For more information on Type 1 diabetes please visit the JDRF website.
