Story
I’m taking part in the Great North Run to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK.
This cruel disease stole the life of my wife, Katie Fenn, in her prime. Katie’s cancer was a ruthless and vicious foe - it presented late, and it was aggressive, and from her first actionable symptoms to her death was just over three months. Katie was a fit and healthy 40-year-old when she died, and whilst rare, it is not unknown in people so young. My wife was beautiful, both inside and out. She was always kind, gentle, caring, loving, thoughtful, honest, generous of spirit and, as her grandad would say, ‘Had not a bad bone in her body’. She loved life and all in her life, which makes it so hard that she was taken at such an early age and by such a cruel disease.
Bowel Cancer UK is the country’s leading bowel cancer charity and is determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest cancer killer, with over 16,000 people dying annually of a disease that is preventable, treatable and curable. The money you donate will help to provide support and information to patients and their families, enable them to fund and support research into bowel cancer and campaign for early diagnosis and best treatment and care for all.
