Story
HELLO there. My name is Keith and my challenge is to row a Marathon in support of the Martlets Hospice. I am a runner really rather then a rower although I do row for 30 minutes three times a week following my usual training runs but I haven't been able to do this since the beginning of Lockdown. The Gyms are beginning to open but I probably will not attend myself just yet because as a blind person it will be very difficult for me to maintain Social Distancing. I haven't been able to run outside because when I do I require a Guide Runner and that could be unsafe in the light of Covid19. Thankfully, I have been able to borrow a rowing machine from friends. Running is truly my favourite sport but I think I could say that rowing isn't too bad and it is growing on me and keeping fit is a must. I cannot say that I am looking forward to rowing 26'2 miles (42 Km) which will take me between three and four hours. In fact it sounds pretty daunting but I have been training for the challenge for some time now. I would like to do it in order to raise funds for the Martlets Hospice.
I am just one of the many complementary therapists at the Martlets and I have been treating patients and their family carers with massage therapy for more then five years. Eva, my guide dog accompanies me in the treatment room and sometimes we go on to the ward. The Martlets is a wonderful place full of loving, caring people who feel it is a real privilege to support as much as possible its patients and their family and friends. During the Covid19 Pandemic and the need to adhere to Social Distancing, raising funds have proved very difficult and I think this will be the case for the foreseeable future and so, if you can, please make a donation here so that the Martlets can continue its vital work.
Thank you so very much
Keith and Eva
