Being keen walkers,we had just returned from a holiday at Robin Hoods Bay 1998.Shortly after Jenny was aware of an acute pain in her side, resulting in an Ultra Sound Scan.Within 3 hours our G.P.came to tell us that her Liver was covered in tumers and a biopsy was required.3 weeks later an appointmernt was given plus a further 4 weeks to receive the results for wich i had to pay £30.We were left to our own devices during this time, trying to come to terms with the strong possibility that this was terminal.Jenny would not allow me to mention this to anyone except my line Manager. We were grateful for the dedication of the Chemotherapy Unit for their dedication and kindness. However the side effects were devastating, thrush in her mouth was the biggest to deal with, resulting in losing over 25 KG within 2 months. We were trying to cope each day, with no offer of support or where to seek any.Thankfully finance was not a problem, but it could have been.We got through the bad days and enjoyed the good ones.Jenny fought every step of the way,but the 3 week Chemotherapy cycle over 6 months took its toll.Eventually Jenny`s Liver began to fail and the pain endured.I still recoil when i can picture a  6 inch curved tube was inserted into her abdomen,to the screams of" Hep me Help me" feeling completely and utterly helpless.Jenny came home, but the second night was a bad one,the following morning our G.P. mentioned for the first time that he would try for a Macmillan Nurse. She was tall all in black, and very kind. There was no sign of her presence in the morning except that Jenny was clean, hair combed, swabs removed and peaceful I refered to the Nurse as an Angel of the night. The following day being a Friday, there were no available Nurses, but it did not matter as Jenny died in my arms on 24 Sept 199 aged 47.I have completed ten long distance trails since then, each with the same burning desire that no one should ever be in that position again and thanks for thr money given to Macmillan Cancer Support, has allowed the organisation to develop into what it is today, giving emotial, medical, financial and practical supoprt to all people and familes that are living with Cancer.Macmillan Cancer Support are a force for good and a force for change

Having walked the most difficult and chalenging trails over the past 10 years,i was seeking something different. We have a wonderfully diverse country and have no many areas unknown to me.I plan to start from Boston,to follow the Macmillan Way to Lower Slaughter.Turn right, using parts of National Trails and paths to walk through miles of Forest through South Wales to reach Rhossili in 22 days covering 329 miles Begining on June 3rd  ending on 24th.

The walk to Stow-on -the Wold, should be reasonably straight forward, but i will be making my own way across Gloucestershire, thorogh Monmouth,Aberganenny,Aberdare,Swansea and the Gower Coast to Rhossilli and miles of Forestation which will be difficult enough when dry.

Anyone wishing to follow my daily Blog,it will be on the Penkrige Village Website main page.penkridge.org
