The Little Black Dress Initiative 2017, 17 February 2017
Making Poverty Unfashionable

Story

From the 20th - 24th February, I will be participating
in the Junior League of London's fourth annual Little Black Dress Initiative poverty-awareness fundraiser!

The JLL is committed to helping eradicate poverty and its effects. More
than 2 million people in London live in poverty and up to 400 people will sleep rough tonight.
As a participant, I will be wearing one black dress for five working days to achieve three aims:

  1. To highlight the story of those in need
    who have few resources, i.e., interview clothes and work clothes, to enter the employment process and to remain at work;
  2. To understand how limited resources can affect daily life; and
  3. To fundraise for our incredible projects within the London community.

    At the end of the week, I will be donating professional clothing to Smart Works, one of our local charity partners that trains and styles out-of-work women on low incomes to prepare for job interviews.
