Story

On the 3rd of September I will be doing a skydive to raise money for the Midlands Air Ambulance. The reason why I am choosing to support them is that on the 18th May 2017, my older brother Callum was hit by a car. Callum was seriously injured and required life saving treatment immediately. The air ambulance and their crew were one of the first people to save my brother's life, without their quick response there is a good chance he would not be with us today. After being treated at the scene by the paramedics and the on board MERIT trauma doctor Callum was swiftly taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Callum was kept in a coma and ventilated upon arrival and it was discovered he had suffered a severe traumatic brain injury amongst other less severe injuries. The outcome for Callum at this point was very uncertain, we did not know if he would be able to survive these injuries and if he did to what extent would he recover. Callum remained in a coma and underwent emergency surgery to remove part of his skull to allow the brain to swell, Callum remained in a coma for around 10 days.

After coming out of the coma, Callum slowly started to make progress and after what felt like a lifetime to my family he was eventually allowed to come home. Callum continued to make improvements and although he had to take it easy due to the effects of the brain injury and the fact that he would have to wait to have his skull bone replaced with titanium plates when the swelling eventually receded, he showed everyone that he would not let this hold him back at all.

Callum is one of the lucky ones that has managed to make a near full recovery, but my family and I are the truly lucky ones as we got to keep him here with us. Without the response of the air ambulance that day we would be writing a very different story right now, that one day changed all our lives in a split second but we are very aware of how different things would have been , had the air ambulance not been able to come to Callum's aid. We are forever grateful to everyone involved with the air ambulance and no matter how much we raise it will never be enough to show them that, but we want to try ! They gave us so much more than we can ever give back, they kept my family whole!

Everything I raise will go directly to the air ambulance, in the hope they can help another family stay together !
