Story
Three good friends supporting each other through the highs and lows of their respective cancer treatments decided they wanted to do something positive, to raise money for the charities closest to their hearts and to, most importantly, have some fun! They agreed instantly that hosting a ball would be the perfect conduit to achieve their three aims and with the inspirational words "Keep Buggering On!", used by Winston Churchill in times of trouble and uncertainty ringing in their ears , the KBO Ball was born! Sam Williams (one of the three friends), tragically lost her battle to cancer in May '20 and spent her last few weeks in the wonderful Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall and Becky Shepherd (another of the 3 friends), peacefully passed away with courage and dignity on Saturday 5th February '22.
Lockdown, PPE and visitor restrictions didn't stop Sue Ryder providing amazing 24 hour support and care for Sam but sadly there is one thing that could stop them now. With less income from their shops and many fundraising events cancelled this and last year, they already have £2m less coming in each month than they need to keep running at full capacity. For every week Sue Ryder's shops were closed the charity lost an additional £500,000. Coronavirus cases are on the rise again and conditions like cancer are going untreated. Sue Ryder Nurses and healthcare staff are needed more than ever at a time when they simply don't have enough funding. The UK is facing an end-of-life care crisis the likes of which we've never seen before......if you are unable to attend the ball / would like to make a donation to support this amazing charity and the vital work they do then please make a donation.
With huge thanks, The KBO Team xxx
