Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As most of you will know, my son James was diagnosed with a very rare and progressive neurological condition called Cerebellar Ataxia when he was 4 years old. It affects his gross and fine motor skills, causing him to be very unsteady on his feet, and his severe hand tremors make every day tasks such as writing, dressing, washing etc almost impossible without assistance. His condition has also caused changes in the white matter in his brain resulting in an alteration in his behaviour. Last year he was also diagnosed with High Functioning ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).
There are many different types of Ataxia and the degree to which the symptoms progress and deteriorate varies significantly. I have been told that it is expected that James will be confined to a wheelchair by the time he is 20 years old. We are determined to try and prove the doctors wrong and keep him mobile for as long as possible.
Ataxia UK are funding significant research programmes that are aiming for a breakthrough to cure or prevent further onset of the symptoms by 2020!
Anything that you can spare - no matter how small - will be greatly received and will go directly to Ataxia UK to continue to support the great work they do .
I would like to thank Sarah Sewell and Alison Goddard who have been hugely supportive in agreeing to do the run with me! You will probably be waiting in the pub for a while for me to finish - but I'll give it my best shot!
