Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For those of you who have already received an email from me, thank you for your replies and I have now been assured by VSO that this is the best way to fundraise so here goes....

Funding has been severly cut this year so it seems the only way to raise money for schools and projects is by appealing to the people so I thank you again for visiting this page.

My plan:

I want to set up an English language Improvement Centre in a secondary school in Bahir Dar which would benefit 3000 students and approx. 100 staff members. Essentially this is a room of resources for the students and teachers to use in their free time in order to improve their English (which is needed in Ethiopia). All subjects are taught in English, all exams are written in English yet the level of English amongst teachers and students is very low. What I want to buy is:
1. Two computers to put English games, software on (or if these can be donated?)
2. Lots and lots of books (children's fiction, grammar books, dictionaries etc)
3. Raise money in order to employ an ELIC coordinator and raise moneyto give training and set up clubs.

The school is very willing to do this and have already allocated a
room. I just need to get the resources. If you have any books/learn
english software etc you are able to donate or money that you are
willing to donate that would be amazing and I will collect ready for the new academic year. Please email back if you have anything to donate and we will make arrangements or alternatively donate to this website.

Please pass this on to anyone you think may be interested in helping.

Thanks very much (betam amesagenalhu in Amharic!)
Katy
