Story
Right I'm going to be honest here: When I signed up I hadn't seen any of the pictures of the mountains!!!!!
Cleverly (or not as it's turned out) I've told the world about this walk, by world I mean boring the pants off people with facebook status updates, my house being littered with walking gear, not to mention bumping into lots of you as I train at the weekeends.
And by doing all of this I ensured I can't back out! See - not clever at all...
So on the 8th June at 9am I set out for what I envisaged to be a nice walk, in the sun, possibly a picnic chucked in, and definately a pint of cider just before the end. The reality is I, along with my team mates, will walk, and walk, and walk, and walk and walk and walk and walk, and and yes you guessed it! Walk! ... for 24 hours solid. No sleeping, no napping, no resting. Just walking. Up mountains! The Brecon Beacons to be precise.
Let's not forget the mountains!
So I'm asking for a bit of your hard earned cash to ease my journey. To make the blisters on my feet worth while, to ease the pain from the bleeding nipples from the constant friction (oh yeah they don't tell you about that before you hit 'sign up'), to soothe the sores where the seam on a t-shirt worn loads of times before has rubbed due to heat and sweat, the backache from walking 24 hours with half the world strapped to my back, the throbbing feet for days afterwards, the exhaustion, tiredness, sore knees, sore hips.... I could go on. Suffice to say it won't be easy and I'm going to work for every buck!
If NONE of those reasons compel you to give up your costa coffee today and donate then think of this:
You never know when you or someone you love is going to get sick and need help and support. I'm not a promo leaflet for the Rowans, I know first hand what they do, because they looked after my best friend, and one of the greatest men to ever walk this earth when he was sick and they ensured that when bone cancer was trying to rob him of absolutely everything, that my grampa still retained his dignity. He died somewhere peaceful and calm, in a warm room, with a beautiful view and with staff around that cared about making his final weeks and days special.
This sort of care has a ripple effect because it was felt through our entire family and I know hand on heart that any one of them passing a Rowans charity box will stop and donate, or offer suppprt in any way they can to ensure other people, in their time of need, have the support and love we did.
So to show my support and to help another family I'm walking 54 miles in 24 hours and I'd love it if you could help me.
Every penny I rasie will go straight to the Rowans, it won't go towards entry fees, or anything else. Just straight to helping fund exceptional care for people when they need it the most.
