This year we have decided to run the Bupa Great North Run in aid of Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, a charity which is very important to us.
Muscular Dystrophy (MD) is an inherited genetic condition that gradually causes the muscles to weaken and leads to an increasing level of disability. MD is a progressive condition, which means that it gets worse over time. It often begins by affecting a particular group of muscles before affecting the muscles more widely. Some types of MD eventually affect the heart or the muscles used for breathing, at which point the condition becomes life threatening. There is no cure for MD, but treatment can help manage many of the symptoms.
With the money we raise the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign aim to find treatments and a ultimately cure for Muscular Dystrophy as well as to make a real difference and to improve the lives of all those people affected by this in the UK.

£120 funds our free phone advocacy and advice telephone service for one day so staff can advise and signpost supporters who are experiencing difficulties with social care, education, access to specialist health care services and employment rights issues
£148 funds our free phone Information line for one day so staff can provide vital support to families and healthcare professionals on a wide range of conditions and issues
£300 funds patient information on muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions to be displayed at clinics for patients
