Story
Hello everyone,
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page! This year I will be running the London Marathon on Sunday 2nd October for my chosen charity Myaware.
I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis in April 2012. Myaware is a charity that is very close to my heart and has helped me a lot during my recovery over the years. This year marks 10 years since being diagnosed and I want to give back now more than ever so this is the perfect opportunity to do so.
'Myasthenia gravis is a rare long-term condition that causes muscle weakness. It most commonly affects the muscles that control the eyes and eyelids, facial expressions, chewing, swallowing and speaking. But it can affect most parts of the body'.
I was affected in many different ways including not being able to open my eyes, speak, stand and not be able to move many muscles in my body. After several weeks in hospital I was discharged and my journey to recovery continued at home. It took me a long time to be strong enough to be able to stand, walk and run properly therefore I am so proud to be able to say that I will be running the London Marathon which I never could have imagined would be possible if someone had told me I'd be doing this 10 years ago.
I appreciate all of the support and look forward to being able to tick something fantastic off my bucket list in October! Every penny is much appreciated and will be going towards an amazing charity which I hope I can raise awareness for and do proud.
Thank you so much,
Katie x
