Our reasons for doing this...
Every day, 250 people in the UK start losing their sight. Too many still face isolation and depression, unable to achieve their potential in a world that blocks their way. RNIB won't stop until every last psychological and physical barrier has gone for good.
The RNIB support people through all stages of their sight loss; at first diagnosis, during treatment and when there is no further medical treatment available. The practical and emotional support that RNIB provide is outstanding and is needed by so many to remain independent and be part of an inclusive society. Help can be given in relation to eye conditions, treatment and research, Certification of Visual Impairment, emotional support, education and employment, technology and other assistive tools.
Every pound you donate is helping create a future where sight loss is no longer a barrier.
Katie - I work as an Eye Clinic Liaison Officer in Newcastle and Sunderland hospitals and every day I witness the impact of sight loss on the person, their families and loved ones. I know how much this support can change people's lives; people are so grateful!
I absolutely love a sporting challenge and the London Marathon has been something I've wanted to do for a long time, so I'm glad I can do it for a fantastic charity! I'm so happy to have Gina by my side to help me through the miles too.
Gina - Watching the London marathon over the years has always been inspiring and the iconic event to be a part of. I've always had a love/hate relationship with running but getting motivated to be out there and the accomplished feeling afterwards makes it worth the pain!
Being able to do London with one of your best friends makes it even more worthwhile and coupled with fundraising for a very worthy cause, it's definitely the event not to be missed.
Help us raise money for RNIB to continue to provide these services to everyone. You never know when you might need them.
