Story
Hi everyone!
For those that know me, I am a keen runner and have been for over 10 years. In 2013, I ran the London Marathon and the incredible day has stayed with me ever since.
It was a really tough experience and I always knew if I was going to go through that pain again, I wanted to try and raise as much money as I could for a charity that was very close to my heart.
So. In 2024. I am doing it all over again!
This time, I am pledging my time, training, dedication, blood, sweat and I am sure, a few tears, to raise as much money as possible to a very important charity, Mind.
1 in 4 of us have a mental health problem or struggle. But many of us do not get the support we need.
At the age of 16, I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. It was a really difficult time in my life and there seemed to be a much bigger stigma around talking about depression and anxiety nearly 20 years ago and as a 16 year old, I didn't really know where to turn for help.
For the past 17 years I have been lucky enough to receive support from my husband, family, friends, the NHS and different types of therapy. I have been able to develop important mental health improvement skills and learn how and when to use them whenever my mental health has taken a turn for the worse. No one is ever cured of depression or anxiety, especially myself, but all we can do is develop skills and techniques to help us whenever we might not feel ourselves.
I have become extremely passionate about helping and supporting anyone that is struggling. I hope that by opening up, I allow others to feel that they can speak up, ask for help and then can get the support that they deserve.
MIND make mental health an everyday priority and are fighting for all of us that are struggling day to day. They offer support, advice and information to empower individuals who are experiencing mental health problems. They campaign to improve services, awareness and promote understanding. By raising funds for this wonderful charity, I am hoping to be able to support the amazing work they do. This is my way of helping to give back into this necessary support network.
Thank you, in advance, for all your support. I will try to keep you posted on my training in the New Year and take you along with me all the way up to the big event.
Those who know me, know this event has been a huge part of my life and there are a lot of nerves but also a lot of excitement!
Every penny you can spare will be going to an incredible charity, and even if poor mental health is not something you have battled with personally, we are all close to someone who has.
