Story
1 in every 6000 children are born with Microtia. Microtia means small/underdeveloped or missing ears. The condition results in hearing loss and sometimes impacts on other parts of the
body too. Because it is so rare most people are only aware of the condition if they or someone they know is affected by it.
We all became aware of Microtia when our very good friend Liz had baby Isaac, who was born with bilateral Microtia. Isaac will be 9 by the time we run our 10K and we have seen the journey that the Jones family have been on since day 1.
The strength and resilience they have shown and Liz’s determination to find ways to help other families – resulting in setting up Microtia UK – has been incredible and we are very proud of our friend.
Microtia UK is an invaluable source of support for families, children and individuals. They hold regular meet ups and events with specialists across the country as well as providing information and a network of people who have shared a similar journey. Microtia UK is the only charity in the UK supporting families affected by Microtia.
Us three are new to running, never having attempted any sort of run before and are looking forward to the challenge of running this 10K to hopefully raise lots of vital funds for Microtia UK.
