Working as part of a specialist cardiac nursing team in Rotherham we are always mindful of the BHF on many levels through both the support and information they provide for us as a team of practitioners but also for the patients we care for.

Without the BHF's on-going commitment over the years, we would not be the team we are today, or able to provide the comprehensive advanced level of care that is now standard. As a cardiac team we recognise the invaluable contribution of easily accessible, timely and accurate cardiac diagnostic tests as part of an uncomplicated patient journey, the same that we would want and hope for our own loved ones. Rotherham is in need of a new ECHO machine to meet the needs of the local population with suspected or actual cardiac disease.

To support the purchase of a new scanner, I am planning to take part in the BHF's Peak district mountain bike challenge, riding 69km with 2,240m of climb on 12th March 2016 (near on the equivalent of riding up Ben Nevis and Scarfell Pike). The conditions at this time of year in the peak will also contribute to the challenge. It will be a long day, but knowing I am raising funds for much needed equipment will keep me pedalling through the wet, cold and tired bits!
