50k For Epilepsy · 24 May 2021

Challenge yourself and change lives this National Epilepsy Week (24-30 May) by completing 50k in seven days.

Story

From the 24th May to 30th May 2021, I will be taking part in Epilepsy Action's 50km challenge.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 22 years old and it was a complete shock, have had no previous warnings or history of the disorder in my family.

I have been lucky enough that until recently my seizures had been controlled by daily medication. Unfortunately in October 2020 I experience by first seizure in nine years. Naturally this was very disappointing and hard to come to terms with as it was very much a feeling of losing my independence once again. During this time and whilst i regained my confidence Epilepsy action were a great support, through the use of their website and forums i slowly managed to adapt my lifestyle once again to ensure the triggers that cause seizures were managed accordingly.

As many of you will know I am already a very active person and can usually be found boxing, running or in the gym, because of this I generally cover over 50km in the week. I have therefore decided to increase the challenge and set a new goal of completing 125km in the seven days.

I would be extremely grateful if you could show your support through a small donation to Epilepsy action, or alternatively by signing up and taking part in order to raise awareness for such a great cause.

Thank you

Katie
