In December 2019, our beautiful nan, Mary Savin, passed away after suffering from dementia. Nan was one of my favourite people in the world. She was kind, loving, fun, funny, witty, principled and generous. Her house was a warm and open home where I and my siblings and cousins spent much of our childhood and many years as adults being loved and indulged. The loss of Nan has been painful but she remains part of our family, with us every day. I'm running this race so that eventually other people, like my lovely nan, will not have to suffer this cruel illness in the last years of their life and that in the meantime there is support for dementia patients and their families.
