Story
Cancer came into our home in 2007 when my husband Chris was diagnosed with Kidney cancer a week after our daughters first birthday and a day before our first niece was born.
Thanks to the advances in cancer treatment when Chris asked "am I going to die?" The consultant said "no".
He underwent a 10 hour operation to remove his kidney and two months later he was fighting fit again. With regular scans coming back clear for almost two years, we thought it had left us alone. Then almost on the two year anniversary, we got the news we had dreaded, it was back and had spread to his liver. Without medical intervention he would have died weeks later. But he didn't, for the next six years targeted chemotherapy drugs kept him alive and some of these drugs only came into being during this time, when one stopped working, another one came along. We honestly thought he would live forever. But despite the great work of cancer research there still isn't a cure for everything, there is still so much work to be done. And the options ran out. Before he died Chris gave his final good months volunteering for a trial, this meant endless tests and overnight stays in hospital away from us, which he hated.
Sadly he passed away on October 2nd 2015.
Six months later I started running, I hated it! 18 months later I'm hooked! The half marathon is a new challenge for both myself and my running partner Nicola and we are determined to smash it for christies. Please help us.
Thanks
