Story
In October 2019, our Dad had a stroke which impacted every part of his life. He has fought to walk, speak and cope with the impact on his mental health. He has good and bad days, but gets through them with the support of our incredible Mum, family and friends. We are taking part in this challenge to raise funds for local support services provided by the stroke association, which our parents have used.
The stroke association were very quick to introduce themselves to us whilst Dad was first in hospital, and explained the support they could offer. During the 3 months Dad was there, a volunteer hosted a weekly quiz which brought a smile to everyone's face. When Dad was discharged, they organised a home visit to help with the practical side of coming home. Mum and Dad are able to go to regular social gatherings hosted by the charity to help with communication and sociability. The stroke association website has been a useful and hopeful resource and knowing the helpline is there is always comforting. Hopefully our fundraising can help more stroke survivors! We're walking 50km in Windsor on the 9th April.
