Story
This year as many running events are cancelled I am doing 26.2 stair climbs on the original date of the London Marathon. And possibly a marathon in September.
All of my running is for Kidney Wales a charity that has become very important to my family since my mum was diagnosed with PKD in 2016 and I was then diagnosed a year later. The only cure for kidney disease at the moment is to have a transplant. Dialysis can help the kidneys to function when they are no longer able to do so alone, however this is really on a temporary measure whilst waiting for a kidney to become available. Kidney Wales fund research into new treatments as well as helping to support patients and their families through what can often be very hard times. They were also instrumental in getting the law changed in Wales so that you now opt out of organ donation rather than opt in; meaning that, hopefully, the wait for a transplant is less.
In 2019 I am heading north for the Edinburgh marathon at the end of May. This will be my third marathon - not bad for someone who only ever wanted to do one!
2018 saw the first ever Newport full marathon. As the start line is only a 30 minute walk from my house it seemed daft (to me anyway!) to not enter it. So, on the morning that entries opened I signed up!
In 2017 I ran my first full marathon in London. Throughout the training and build up I was adamant that I only wanted to do one, to prove to myself that I could. However, as soon as I crossed the finish line I knew that I would have to do it again!
I am also completing the Newport, Severn Bridge and Cardiff Half Marathons every year along with the Cardiff 10km.
