Story
On September 20th, I will be climbing up Snowdon with some amazing people. We are doing it because we all share the belief that everyone, whether sighted or not, should be able to live their life without limits.
Then on November 2nd I will be guiding Alistair Kelsey as we run the UK's First Ever Blindfold 5k. This could be disastrous! Alistair is a seasoned marathon runner, whereas my half marathon attempt a few years ago pretty much ended in tears.
In June I was lucky enough to be a part of an RLSB event at the House of Commons launching their new employment resource. Four young people stood up on stage and spoke to a room full of ministers, MPs, business leaders and generally awesome individuals about how their sight loss affects their employment chances, and what they are doing to make it right.
One quote from a young vision impaired man stuck in my head: "Today I learnt to focus on my ability, not my disability".
I am putting myself (and Alistair) through this because I want every vision impaired young person to focus on their abilities and their passions, not their sight loss.
