Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you know, following the death of my dad in March last year, I set out on the journey to run the Reading Half Marathon on 1 April 2012 in aid of Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, to thank them for the support and care which they provided to my dad and our family during the final four months of his life.
Iain Rennie provides 24/7 specialist nursing care, 365 days a year, for those who are suffering from cancer and other life-threatening and terminal illnesses. They enable patients to receive the best possible quality of life, offering them the opportunity to spend the final stages of their life at home. With the nursing support made available to my dad, and the moral support and advice available to my mum, we had the chance to care for him and provide as much love and comfort as possible.
Less than 10% of the charity's funding is provided by the Government. Therefore they rely heavily on donations, fundraising and legacies to assist them to raise the £6m needed each year to care for up to 2,000 patients from their base in the Chilterns.
As you can imagine, this is a cause which is massively close to my heart and has sustained me in many miles of training which started just a few weeks after dad's death. Those who know me well have seen me fall in love with running, but the goal of completing the Reading Half in memory of my dad, one year and one day after his death, is a very special one.
I do hope you can support me in this cause and, along with the team at Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, I am very grateful for your donation.
Thank you,
Katherine
