On the 2nd August 2015 I will be joining thousands of other cyclists taking to the streets of London and lanes of Surrey in the challenge to cycle 100 miles - a full century.
I am riding in memory of my darling Granny, Betty Moore, who passed on in November 2013. Granny was a hugely respected member of our community, and touched the lives of many people both in the UK and abroad through her travels. She was a very determined and independant woman, who also enjoyed cycling, delivering the parish magazines and riding to church right up to the age of 83 when she had her first stroke. As anyone who has experienced a friend or loved one having a stroke will well know, it is a particularly devastating disease. Luckily Granny made a partial recovery, and was able to spend a further 13 years warming our hearts, whether it was through her wise words, sharp wit, or constant, unwavering love.
My reasons for taking part in the Prudential RideLondon 100 are twofold; firstly and foremostly to raise money for an incredibly worthy charity, Stroke Association. Secondly, to personally challenge myself in what will be a huge personal test of endurance. And of course, to make Granny proud.
If you are able to, I would be greatly appreciative of any sponsorship for Stroke Association. Thank you for your support.
