Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have taken on the challenge to raise a target of £3195 for Mind as well as travelling to Iceland this August to trek across various terrain, over mountains and across Icelandic desert. Myself, along with a team of fundraisers will be walking a total of 58km in three days, tackling Icelands varying weather whilst trekking across a tough course. My goal is to initially raise £2500 by the end of May then continue my fundraising up until the challenge!
Over the next few months I will be training, taking on some long treks up and down peaks across Wales, the Lake District, the Peak District and through the South Shropshire Hills.
So why have I taken on this challenge?
My main goal throughout my fundraising journey is to raise awareness and understanding of mental health, it’s importance to our health and wellbeing and why we shouldn’t stigmatise those who suffer mental health issues.
Mental Health can often be hidden and we may not realise those around us are suffering from issues everyday. From low self-esteem to severe stress and anxiety, at some point in our lives we’ve all struggled with some form of mental health issues. Mental Health issues can be a barrier to many things such as meeting new people or getting a new job; other people suffer in different ways such as gaining or losing weight. This can have a huge significance on our lives.
This challenge is the best way in which I can raise awareness and do this for all my friends and family who have ever suffered with mental health issues. Walking helps me overcome stresses in my life, keeps me fit and healthy both physically and mentally - this is something I want to share with others and help them find this escape and an opportunity for mindfulness.
Mental Health is underfunded in our country and our NHS and voluntary services are under extreme pressure to provide services to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. Every penny I raise for Mind will support this amazing charity to help those in need and help save and improve lives! Please give if you are able to, I’m very grateful for any support!
