I am running my first marathon on the 11th April, fund-raising for the Alzheimer’s Research Trust.
My grandfather has suffered from vascular dementia for the past 10 years. It has been very distressing to watch his deterioration and his illness has had a massive impact on all of our family. It is a horribly debilitating disease and this has really emphasised to me how important it is to research ways to treat, cure and prevent such diseases.
Research into Alzheimer's is desperately under-funded even though there are over half a million people in the UK with the disease.
The Alzheimer's Research Trust is the UK's leading research charity for dementia. They are dedicated to funding scientific studies to find ways to treat, cure or prevent Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewy Body disease and fronto-temporal dementia.
They do not receive any government funding and instead rely on donations from individuals, companies and charitable trusts, money raised by individuals and gifts left in people's Wills to fund their vital work.
And, despite my dedication to my training over the past few months, I am still going to need all the help I can get to run these 26 miles – so please support me and the charity!
Thanks,
Ally
