Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 28 June, I will be flying to Tanzania to start my climb up Mount Kilimanjaro. The climb will take us six days in total and will involve us climbing to a height of 19,000 feet.
I will admit, I agreed to accompany my good friend Estelle on the climb, one Friday night, after several cocktails. It seemed a good idea at the time, and how hard could it be? The next day, everyone was expecting me to rapidly change my mind. But after thinking about what an amazing challenge this will be for me and also on realising I could use the trip to raise some money for an extremely important charity, I paid my deposit and booked my flight!
The charity I have chosen to support is the Alzheimer’s Society. Not only do they carry out extensive research into dementia, but they also offer invaluable support for both sufferer’s, but often more in need, their carer’s. Alzheimer’s does not receive as much support and publicity as many other charities, even though most people have been affected by this horrid disease at some point, in some way.
My Grandma suffered with Altzeimer's for several years and the Altzeimer's Society was a great support to my Grandad. I will always remember my Grandma as the beautiful, elegant immaculate woman she was when I was growing up, and it is for her that I am doing this climb.
Like my Grandma was, I am probably far better known amongst my friends for my love of handbags, NOT for climbing mountains, so I think most of you know this is going to be quite a challenge for me. But an amazing one, none the less.
I would be extremely grateful of any donation you are able to give, however small. This is going to be a massive challenge for me, both mentally and physically and the thought of raising money for this charity will keep me going when I start to tire.
Thank you,
Katherine x
