Story
If you're short on time, take a look at the gallery which kind of says it all but if you would like to know my story......
In October 2019, I got a sudden and shocking diagnosis of bowel cancer. I had 2 major surgeries and started chemotherapy which was subsequently curtailed because of COVID.
In November 2020, we got the devastating news that the cancer had come back and spread and was now advanced cancer. Since then, I’ve had 12 cycles of chemotherapy with a break after 6 cycles to have a 3rd major surgery to remove part of my liver. Chemotherapy was administered over 3 days every 2 weeks. It’s been brutal.
I’m writing this whilst recovering from my 12th round of chemotherapy treatment, if I’m lucky it could be my last bit of cancer treatment. Please keep everything crossed for me.
Right now, I feel rotten physically from the last treatment but also overwhelmed and happy that I don’t have to go and do it again in a week’s time. When you’ve been eating an elephant one bite at a time it’s a bit of a shock when you finish it!
And I can’t write about this without also saying that the last 9 months has been a massive team effort by family, friends and colleagues to get me and my family through this and I’m so incredibly grateful for the help we’ve had. I've also had support from some lovely people who I met via Bowel Cancer UK's forums - this one is for you all.
As many of you will know, I’m a keen runner and kept on running
through treatment when I could. I have a place for the London Marathon on 3 October 2021 and I want to use it to raise money and awareness for Bowel Cancer and am running for Bowel Cancer UK
Please sponsor me if you can and help put a stop to this horrible disease.
