Story
Just over 18 months ago I was admitted to A&E unable to even walk. A prolapsed disc had left me barely able to move to the point of any movement being agony. Within days I had spinal surgery to remove part of my disc and relieve the pressure on my spinal cord. The road to recovery has been long, hard and emotional. Formally, a very active trained PE Teacher with two young boys, sport and activity was the centre piece of my life. Running again and biking were simply dreams. However, thanks to the NHS slowly but surely I have began to get some of my life back mentally and physically. Since the lockdown I have a new found confidence and gradually increased my exercise. I am jogging again with minimal pain and clocking up the miles on the bike once again. This is all thanks to great professionals that fixed me and have given me the confidence that life can return to some form of normality. Watching Captain Tom clock up his daily laps has inspired me to challenge myself. I am aiming to be physically active (biking, walking or jogging) for 100 minutes a day for the month of May to raise a small amount towards supporting those on the front line. I would also like to encourage everyone to be as active as possible and ask anyone that wants to, to join in.
