I am a Paediatric ICU consultant working at a hospital in Johannesburg. Throughout my training I have encountered children with all kinds of different cancers and the one thing they all have in common is bravery and determination, the treatment they undergo is brutal for them and their families, but necessary and hopefully life saving, and while I would love to say there is always a smile, I have wiped many a tear as well. The hardest part is when these little souls are no longer able to stay with us any more, I am not ashamed to say I have cried with families when this happens. So this is why I have chosen to raise funds for Children with Cancer UK for vital specialist research to try to save the lives of every child with cancer and keep their families together. Their vision is a world where every child diagnosed with cancer gets to ring their end of cancer treatment bell.
