Story

Update *

Sadly my beautiful daughter did not receive the transplants she needed. She fought her illness with such bravery and courage and never complained.   She was  truly inspirational, and for the rest of my life will always be with me in my heart. 💕

Scarlett passed away on Wednesday the 15th of April 2020

Kath and I will continue the challenge that Scarlett set for us and try to raise as much funds as possible for SAKA, the charity that Scarlett wanted to support.

Any donations will be kindly received in her memory

From Scarlett

"Hello, my name is Scarlett O’Keefe and I am 28 years old and I am currently waiting for a Liver and Kidney transplant. Once I am well, I am planning a charity dog walk to raise money for St James Hospital.

While I am unwell I have challenged my Mum Bev and her friend Kath Duffy to do the #walk1000mile to raise much needed funds for SAKA. This equates to 2.75 miles every day for a year! They have said that this will be challenging but I have faith that they can do it.

SAKA was formed in 1976 to help kidney patients and their families cope with kidney failure and to help fund research into kidney disease. 100% of all funds raised by SAKA are for the benefit of renal patients who are cared for by the Sheffield Kidney Institute. They are the ONLY local kidney charity run by patients that provides grants and support direct to patients and their families. They help renal patients directly by providing financial support. It helps to purchase essential items when times are hard; helps with visitors’ travel costs when patients are hospitalised; part-fund the Saka Sheffield team members at the British and World Transplant Games; supports research at the Sheffield Kidney Institute.

This is a most worthy charity and I have seen the fantastic work they do. Please if you can, help me support this charity by sponsoring my mum Bev and Kath

Thank you

THE CHARITY - SAKA

SAKA exists to help and support all kidney patients in the Sheffield and surrounding area. CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) affects many people, particularly as they get older. Less than 1 in 10 of people with CKD will require dialysis or transplant during their lives.Whatever stage patients are at, SAKA is there to help them, their families, friends and carers.
