Story
Welcome to my Summer of 60!
This August I turn 60.
I plan to celebrate as much as I can for as long as I can, taking on a number of challenges and involving as many people as possible along the way.
So far my physical challenges are:
June 12th - St Albans Half Marathon
July 3rd - Hitchin Sprint Triathlon
August 28th - Antrim Coast Half Marathon
September 4th - Oakley 20 Mile Road Race
October 2nd - London Marathon
October 30th - Dublin Marathon
Throughout the challenges I will be raising money for Children with Cancer UK and for London Marathon I will be part of the 30-strong Luton Lions team - you may hear us coming!
To say I am excited to run London is a massive understatement.
I watched the first race in 1981 and have always wanted to be part of it but I hated running!
13 years ago a 3 year old with a broken leg got me running, I realised I didn't hate it any more and after 8 ballot rejections (and counting) I am delighted to be part of the Luton Lions team and finally fulfil a 41 year old ambition, 6 weeks after turning 60!
I have a number of fundraising ideas that I will annoy you with over the coming months. Please get involved and donate what you can to enable this fabulous charity to continue to fund research, support families and raise awareness of childhood cancers.
Thank you.
https://www.childrenwithcancer.org.uk/Children with Cancer UK invest in childhood cancer research that would otherwise go unfunded. Only around 2% of cancer research funding in the UK* is spent on research that is fully dedicated to childhood and young adult cancer.
*estimated amount based on data from the NCRI Cancer Research Database (CaRD) for 2018/19
"At Children with Cancer UK we actively raise and invest money for vital specialist research to save the lives of every child with cancer and keep their family together. Our vision is a world where every child diagnosed with cancer gets to ring their end of cancer treatment bell."
