Story
In my day job, myself and colleagues from across the political spectrum have been working with the voluntary, community & business sectors to provide what support & help we can to people in our community - and the compassion and selflessness has been incredible. But I also keep thinking of where I grew up in Zimbabwe - and places like it - where for so many social distancing just isn’t possible. Where there aren’t enough hand-washing facilities. Where the only way you can feed your family is by going to work each day. Where stockpiling isn’t possible. And I want to do something to help.
Tearfund have local partners on the frontline now (including Zimbabwe), where they are distributing leaflets about handwashing, distancing and recognising symptoms. They are also giving out hygiene kits, but getting access is likely to become even harder and they need our help.
So I’ll be running 5km a day in the month of May, along with the Tearfund 5km a day team, to raise £2000, which could provide essential sanitising products like soap and bleach powder for over 600 families living in poverty.
Thank you so much for your support x
