Story
When I ran my first marathon in 2017 I was a fresh faced pup, barely into my 40s and no idea of how hideous a marathon can be! But here I am again, running my 5th marathon and raising funds for an amazing charity, The Miscarriage Association.
I’ve been trying to think of sequels that are still going strong at number 5 in the franchise which I can draw upon for inspiration. But let’s face it, can anyone really remember rocky v? I guess anyone who bumps into me on one of my long runs might think I’m taking inspiration from the exorcist franchise though!
Most of you know my story, the multiple baby losses, the heartbreak that grew with each successive loss, the replacement of hope with despair as a scan revealed a heart no longer beating, and how I lost a bit of myself with each loss.
You probably also know how running became my lifeline, and gave me an opportunity to work through my grief and recognise the light that stubbornly remained, even in my darkest days.
The Miscarriage Association is a tiny charity, with only 6 full time staff and a team of amazing volunteers. It provides support groups, a helpline and information leaflets to help those impacted by baby loss navigate both the complex emotions experienced and the endless red tape associated with healthcare and work.
More than ever, the miscarriage association is dependant upon funds raised through the London Marathon. Every pound raised makes such a difference to the support they can provide for the thousands of women like me.
In October I will be running for everyone who has experienced loss and grief, and for all those who have yet to come through the other side.
So, whilst I know times are tough, please dig deep if you can and sponsor me.
