Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
I am raising money for Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity.
As you may know, our world was turned upside down this year when our beautiful daughter, Evie, was born but was unexpectedly poorly, and tragically died just a few hours later. Nothing could have ever prepared us for such a terrible loss of our precious girl.
We have since learned the shocking statistics for the number of neonatal deaths and stillbirths: Incredibly in the UK today, in spite of medical advances, 17 babies a day are either stillborn or die within the first twenty eight days of life, over 6,500 babies dying every year. Rates of stillbirth have remained relatively unchanged for 20 years and in fact are increasing. Research is much needed: 17 babies a day is 17 too many!
Sands core aims are to: support anyone affected by the death of a baby; work with health professionals to improve the quality of care and services provided to bereaved parents and their families; and promote changes in antenatal practice and to fund research that could help to reduce the loss of babies' lives and the number of families devastated by this tragedy.
We have been fortunate to have had fantastic care and support thanks to the influence Sands have had upon hospital policies. We are also fortunate to have great, ongoing support from family and friends, yet, here we are, asking for more! We do believe that with your support we can really make a difference.........
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Sands gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, is added to your donation.
We would be really grateful if you would consider sponsoring me.
I shall be running the Great North Run on the 16th September. I am currently in training with the help of my running buddy - Hattie the chocolate labrador, and with John and our old lab, Fraser cheering us on!
Thank you so much for your support, it really means a lot to us.
