Story

Hi All!

Thanks so much for taking the time to look at my JustGiving page.

So, today (the 7 September) would have been my sister Sally’s 23 birthday – as many of you know she passed away in 2006, very suddenly, after contracting Meningitis Strain B.

Since then as a family we have endeavoured to fundraise for the development and implementation of a vaccine against this horrible disease by supporting the Meningitis Research Foundation.

Amazingly in the past few years a vaccine has been produced, however in July 2013 the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) disappointingly failed to recommend immediate implementation of this vaccine and instead have deferred their final decision.

Nevertheless, we are not giving up and the charity and its supporters still have a lot to do and we will continue pushing for the licensing of this vaccine!

In this vain I will be running the Great North Run for the MRF with my good friend Toby Jones on September 15 (soon I know!) and we would be grateful for your sponsorship!

I’d also just like to take this opportunity to say a HUGE thank you to all of you who have both supported and sponsored me and my family over the past years! As you can see the money we are raising is making a difference.

Lots of love

Kate

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.
