Race To The Stones · 11 July 2015

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

I am undertaking the Dixons Carphone Race To The Stones with a few close friends in July. It is a 100km challenge from Chinnor to the 3000-year-old stone circle at Avebury. I am aiming to complete it within 24 hours in the hope of getting some sleep before starting a week of night shifts!

I am raising money for Stroke Association, whose mission is to prevent strokes and to reduce their effect through providing services, campaigning, education and research.

I have not only witnessed the devastating effects of strokes recently at work, but have also seen them first hand when my grandfather sadly suffered from a number of strokes, leaving him completely dependent on others to care for him. I have, on the other hand, seen the amazing effects of what impact thrombolysis (the new and developing clot-busting treatment) has on reversing the symptoms of stroke and also the beneficial outcome of stroke rehabilitation.

I would be extremely grateful for any donations, all of which will go to Stroke Association, to support their current research and provide the required facilities for the victims of stroke in their rehabilitation.
