Story
The BHS' 2021 Charity Races raise funds for the vital work of the charity. Those of you who know me well (or even just a little) probably know that I am a bit of a speed freak, whether it's galloping my horse XC, driving a supercar around the Top Gear track or haring down a steep hill on my mountain bike. So galloping a beautiful Thoroughbred around an 8 furlong track at Newbury racecourse was an opportunity I just could not resist or turn down. Call it a Bucket List tick off too. On top of that, I shall be raising as much money as I can for the BHS, specifically the 'Changing Lives Through Horses' Campaign. Having been involved with horses as a hobby from a young age and then latterly running a livery yard since my retirement from the Royal Navy, I know and see just how much of a positive and life-changing influence they can be for so many, regardless of background and situation. Even in the last 'Covid' year, contact and work with horses and ponies has been the saving grace of so many. I shall be working hard over the next handful of months to ensure I am fit enough and ready in all respects to ride in this race, and hope that with your support I will be able to raise well in excess of the £2500 goal.
