Manchester Marathon 2021 · 10 October 2021 ·
SEPT 2021 UPDATE: So 3 postponements and 18 months later and the marathon is finally due to go ahead on Sunday 10th October 2021. In all honesty, training hasn't been going as well this time around. Lockdowns, furlough/home working, some rubbish family stuff, trying to sell/buy a house and then renovate said house has all seen my motivation wane a bit. Winter training suited me far better than hot and melty summer runs (bleurgh), and I'm now surrounded by my nemeses...the dreaded hills. I'm having to head back to nice flat Cheshire to try and get the longer runs in as fitness levels just aren't what they were back in March 2020. Perhaps I shouldn't have eaten all those tubs of ice cream whilst binge watching Line of Duty and Breaking Bad.
Still, if lockdown has shown me anything, it's how badly a lack of social interaction can affect those suffering with dementia (as well as those that care for them). Dementia is a steady decline - there's no recovering from all that lost time. Also, charities such as Alzheimer's Society must have suffered terribly throughout the past 18 months without all the donations raised from the usual events.
I just want to take the opportunity to thank those of you that donated last time - your money won't have been wasted, and of course I wouldn't expect another donation this time around. However, if anybody else feels they might have a few spare pennies to help me reach my new target then it might just boost my motivation over the next few weeks when I'm trying to push the extra miles through endless aches and pains (and the ridiculous amount of gross chafing). I really want to make that start (and hopefully finish) line and run for Alzheimer's Society. Fingers crossed.
Thank you!
